I love how "Stardust Memories" has three characters, each in their worlds as denoted by the panels. And yet they are united in the way that the colors flow on the canvas and their similar but very stylized features. To me, the guy on the right is looking at his inner or past selves and having new insights about it all.
The writing says "Turn and face the strange," a reference to David Bowie's hit song "Changes." The title comes from an old Woody Allen movie. Irony abounds. This started off as a "practice canvas" back in 2019. At the time I was toying with shapes, colors and other materials and the piece started to take shape.
I knew it had a lot of potential but it remained unfinished until 2022 when I was going through my studio and rediscovered it. I added to the character on the right and then laid down the writing. I love how it came out and what it says about the human psyche and our ability to learn deeper truths about ourselves over time. I know I certainly have.
